Introduction
We leave our studies of geography and begin on our quest to learn how human civilization began. This will be approximately a 14 day instructional period with the test to be given on 18 December 2014 period to our break. We began our journey in prehistory with what is commonly referred to as a cave man but in fact mankind went through several incarnations before the creation of homo sapiens. We will learn about cro-magnum man, Neanderthals and homo erectus. In addition we will learn how the early human beings lived as nomads who hunted and gathered the food they need and traveled from place to place to find the food they needed to survive. Eventually mankind would learn to farm and settle down in small settlements that would soon grow to large civilizations.
In our second week we will learn about the three specific periods of the Stone Age (Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic) how men learned how to make fire and the importance that many anthropologist place on this discovery both on the development of mankind and our civilizations. The first period of the Stone Age or the Paleolithic period mankind was a nomad and wandered the Earth as a hunter gather. Mankind left Africa and traveled through various paths until all areas of the Earth had been reached. In the Mesolithic period mankind settles down and learns to farm creating the technique of irrigation and domesticating plants. Finally in the third and final era of the Stone Age or the Neolithic mankind learns to domesticate animals and begins to build small villages. We will also learn about Otzi and Lucy two ancient ancestors that helped scientist understand more about how live was in prehistoric times.
