Welcome to Newpoint Academy and specifically to our 6th Grade Science class. This website will be the primary way in which teacher, students and parents will communicate with each other. This website will contain our classroom expectations, procedures, homework, projects and course instructions. I will also provide the students with a study guide prior to each unit test. Tests will be given at the end of each major area of study. I reserve the right to "surprise" the students with pop quizzes on vocabulary and content area to ensure that student's are engaging in the materials. Homework can be expected at least twice a week, normally on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Homework is normally short and allows the student to practice or review material covered in class that requires extra exposure to maximize learning potential. Please review the homework procedures under the Classroom Procedures tab found on this website.
Students will find the majority of the course material under the heading of Course Instructions. This is broken down into four grading periods which are further broken down into a week by week schedule. The weekly lessons will include a resource tab that includes all materials (videos and powerpoints for example) presented to the student in class allowing them to engage as THEY need to in order to reinforce areas that the students feel they do not understand.
Unless otherwise noted all homework assignments will be submitted via google documents (procedures for creating google documents can be located under the Classroom Procedures menu)
Normal lesson content will consist of vocabulary words, main instruction and resources. Students and parents will find that the main lessons area is subdivided into two columns: classroom work and homework. ALL assignments will have a due date and late submission will have a penalty as stated in the Homework policy.
Included in the orientation section is a copy of the classroom contract which all students, parents and myself will sign acknowledging what is expected of them and what I pledge to provide to them. One of my main goals is to teach our incoming 6th graders accountability and this includes coming to class prepared with an open mind, pen, paper and a positive attitude. DISRUPTIONS DUE TO STUDENTS NOT TAKING THEIR LESSONS SERIOUSLY AND INTERRUPTING OUR LEARNING TIME IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR.
