This week we will be finishing up the section on Maps, Globes, Time Zones and the Earth's Grid System. Students should be able by now to locate places on the map using longitude and latitude lines, recognize important parts of both maps and globes (map key, legends, map rose etc), understand that the earth is separated into different hemispheres and know the importance of the Equator and Prime Meridian.
In addition students should also have knowledge of the earth's time zone and practiced telling what time it is in different parts of the world.
Objectives

Vocabulary
This week we only have three vocabulary words.
time zones
Areas of the Earth divided into 15 degree zones that share the same time. The reason for this is to try and standardize time.
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
The time zone that the prime meridian is located in. Named after Greenwich England where the imaginary line runs through.
International Date Line
An imaginary line on the surface of the Earth running north to south and separates one calendar day from the next. This is located in the Pacific Ocean at longitude line 180 degree.

Students will complete their vocabulary sentences, word find and word scramble before proceeding to work in vocabulary flash card game.
Homework
Homework is assigned on Monday of this week and due Friday of this week. Students will determine what time it is in the following cities if it is 4pm in Pensacola, FL (*Hint use the time zone map on the resource page). Students will place this information in google documents and share with me.
The cities that the students will use are as follows:

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Cairo, Egypt
Rome, Italy
